Oral/Workshop presentation requirements

Time for oral presentations: 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions (20 minutes in total). Chairpersons are asked to enforce strict time limits to enable the audience switching between sessions.

The following information is for those participants who plan to present their contribution with PowerPoint.

As the presentations at the conference are on a very tight schedule - with 20 minutes per session - there will be no time for loading presentations or switching computer connections to the projector between different presentations. We require that all digitalized presentations will be handed in before the sessions so that they can be loaded onto the computers provided by ECEM. The following guidelines must be followed in order to insure a quick and secure transition between presentations.

Technical equipment provided by ECEM

Each room is equipped with an overhead projector fro transparencies, a laptop computer running Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, and a data projector. Furthermore, a staff member will be available for technical support in each room.

If you intend to present movies

There will also be a DVD player as movies should be presented in the DVD format, especially if they don't come in either .mpg or .avi format. Be conscious that movie files embedded into Microsoft Power Point may not work as Power Point plays only formats which are compatible with Windows Media Player. Additionally, we will also provide the Quick Time, Flash, and Shockwave Players, but embedded films will not work directly inside Power Point either. We suggest to bring all films in DVD format as a backup. Please avoid graphics in .tif format.

Handing in your presentation to our staff

To ensure a quick and secure process please save your presentation on a CD and write the name of your session (e.g. TA-76) on the CD with a waterproof marker-pen.
All presentations should be in Microsoft Power Point format (with a .ppt extension). Your presentation filename should consist of the session number (e. g. TA-76.ppt). If you intend to operate more than one single Powerpoint Presentation, please put them in a folder with the name of your session (e. g. TA-76) and make sure that there is nothing else on your CD.
Please provide your PowerPoint presentation to us not later than 8.45 a.m. on the day your session will take place, by handing it in at the conference secretary's office. In order for your presentation to be included in the sessions please ensure you do not miss the 8.45 a.m. deadline. We strongly advise that all Power Point users bring overhead transparencies of their presentation in case of any technical difficulties appear.

All files on the computers will be deleted at the end of each day.

Presentation checklist:

Did I name and store the file(s) correctly?

Did I write the name of my session on the CD (e. g. TA-76)?

Will I provide my CD in time?

Do I have overhead transparencies as a backup?

Poster presentation requirements

We kindly ask that your poster does not exceed standard European A0 size (841mm x 1189mm, preferably portrait format). On the day of your presentation, please tack your poster to the board marked with your presentation number before the conference/poster session starts and remove your poster not later than 18:00.

How to obtain a WLAN account for ECEM13

If you have a portable computer with WLAN hardware, you will be able to use it at ECEM13 with one of our WLAN accounts. To sign up for a WLAN account please ask for it while going through the registration process at the entry of the building. We will verify your identity both for your conference registration and your WLAN sign up, so please carry a passport or ID with you. You will have to sign an agreement on WLAN usage policy required by the University authorities. Your account information will have to remain stored up to six months after the conference for possible use by Swiss legal authorities.
